Eerie Livestock Mutilations Baffle Ranchers in Argentina
Cow and horse found with precise tissue removal; owners speculate on non-human culprits

Villa de la Quebrada, Argentina — Ranch owners in this small San Luis Province community are seeking answers after a heifer and a mare were discovered on separate dates with unusual and disturbing injuries consistent with long-reported cattle mutilation cases.
The first incident occurred last month, when a downed heifer was found with part of its jaw cleanly cut away and its tongue, an eye, and the udder removed with striking precision. “What seemed most unusual,” one owner said, “was a burn inside the mouth—almost as if made by a laser.”
Roughly a week later, one of the ranch’s horses went missing. It was soon located nearby, deceased and exhibiting “the same characteristics as the cow,” including sharply delineated cuts and carefully excised tissue. In both cases, scavengers—which typically descend quickly on carcasses—reportedly avoided the remains.
Perplexed by the speed, accuracy, and apparent selectivity of the tissue removal, the ranchers doubt the work was done by ordinary poachers. “It doesn’t make sense for people to do all this and then leave the animal,” one owner observed, noting that typical criminal activity would involve taking the carcass or valuable parts.
With conventional explanations failing to satisfy, the owners floated more exotic possibilities they’ve encountered in media reports—ranging from the folkloric “chupacabras” to non-human intelligences. Yet they also acknowledged that, for now, the cause remains unknown. “The reality is that no one can say exactly what happened or why,” one said.
